The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships were launched in glamorous style in Vienna as the Austrian capital prepares to welcome thousands of beach fans to the tournament this summer.

At a press conference held at the city’s iconic Spanish Riding School, members of the organizing committee outlined Vienna’s vision to make the tournament the biggest and best in beach volleyball history.

The world’s best players will battle for the title of world champion and compete for prize money of USD 1 million on Vienna’s world famous Danube Island between July 28 and August 6 in what promises to be a momentous occasion for the sport just a year after yet another successful Olympic Games.

Beach Majors CEO Hannes Jagerhofer and FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° were on hand to brief the international media at the Spanish Riding School.

“The anticipation is great,” said Jagerhofer, who fulfilled a big dream of his, together with his team to host the World Championships in Vienna. “To bring the World Champs to Austria has been a long-time dream of ours and we are looking forward to making this a reality. I am convinced that Vienna will set new standards in every way.”

FIVB President, Dr. Graça, said: “The FIVB and the entire Volleyball Family is looking forward to experiencing the warm welcome and fantastic hosting credentials that Austria has already showed us when the country staged the 2001 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Klagenfurt. The 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships is the next key milestone for beach volleyball and a great opportunity to invite the fans to an amazing event.”

Meanwhile Austrian 2016 beach volleyball Olympic team Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst took part in a special iconic photoshoot at the Spanish Riding School with Vienna’s famous Lipizzaner horses with Spike the Sun photographer Dustin Snipes as the countdown to the start of the tournament begins.
